As some of you may know, we have had a lot of baby monkeys show up at the sanctuary, some even being born here. Obviously we did not encourage any monkey breeding, because that is against our philosophy, but somhow it happened. We vasectomize all of our males so that they can live together with the females and enjoy life's pleasures without consequences. Anyway, we were misinformed about some of our newer males being vasectomized, and what do you know - we soon had pregnant females! You could only imagine how upset Kari was when she found out the news (wish we had a photo of her face). But, fortunately for these mothers and babies, they are able to live their lives out here at Jungle Friends with no worries. We were able to witness one of these mothers actually giving birth. It is something that most people will never get to see, and some dream of seeing. This video is uniquely fascinating - any mom, especially, will certainly feel a bond with this monkey mother as you look into her eyes, going through labor. It's some amazing footage!
Yes, I was shocked, you will see how shocked Mimi was by the expression on her face in the Broken Bonds video, Mimi also discovered that Michelle's baby is a boy! Mama and baby continue to do well. Nell, who lives with Michelle and her baby helps groom the baby and even carries him on her back to give Michelle a break - a wonderful monkey family! Lots of monkey love, Kari and the monks
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this posting....altho' a "tragic" birth, what relief to know they will be together and baby raised as "normally" as possible. Kari, thanks for all that you do!!
