Voters said that they believed monkeys DO have tails, 10 to 4. What's the real story?
We checked with Kari, our expert, who says: all monkeys have a tail, but it can be very small and inconspicuous in some species. The best-known of these is probably the Barbary macaque, which is sometimes called the Barbary ape for this reason (though the Barbary macaque is a monkey and not an ape). Mandrills also have small tails.
I did see a human with a tail once, but it was on the Jerry Seinfeld show. Hmmm, I am not sure if a human with a tail would be considered a monkey? At least we know that ALL monkeys have tails, whew!
